"Mail Notify" is a protocol speculated to be used by the WebTV/MSN TV service in some fashion to facilitate real-time notifications of new mail to connected boxes. The only mention of this protocol's existence so far outside of this wiki is in an internal Microsoft document [1]. "Mail Notify" is claimed to run on top of UDP, and alongside sending connected boxes mail notifications, supposedly tracked how many were online as well. Confirmation on if this was a service the box would contact directly or if this was simply a component of the server-side infrastructure is yet to be known.
