The WebTV/MSN TV network is what powers the WebTV/MSN TV devices and allows them to operate beyond being a simple piece of scrap metal and components connecting to nothing. The network initially was and up until its eventual discontinuation, still offered a dial-up service where the user would have their box dial an access number, and from there they would be authenticated onto the WebTV/MSN TV network through specialized servers. Broadband was also an option but this was only available on Rogers Interactive TV and the MSNTV 2, and how the network operated differently compared to dial-up on either is, at the moment, unclear.
